But voting for a candidate and working for a candidate are two different things. “As for now, many of us continue supporting Governor Mike Huckabee because we remain unconvinced of your commitment to core conservative principles,” the memo states. “If you are the eventual nominee, to win you need to be concerned not only with getting all of us to vote for you in the Fall, but also with how much heart we will dedicate to working FOR your election.”
In 1996, the memo warns, social conservatives didn’t work hard for the presidential campaign of former Sen. Bob Dole because they didn’t trust him on core issues.
