News of the Day…

President Bush today comments that McCain is a true conservative. Funny, he’s the first true conservative that twice opposed Bush’s tax cuts, but now supports them. Sounds like a John Kerry moment in a future debate with Barak Obama. I can hear it now:

McCain: “I was opposed to the Bush tax cuts before I was for them.”

Obama: “And Senator, when did you have this remarkable change of heart?”

McCain: “I changed my mind when I needed conservative voters.”

Obama: “America, this is politics as usual. The Senator doesn’t stand on principle - the senator panders to this group, and that group. America needs a president that stands firm on principle.”

Don’t get me wrong - Obama (and McCain) are wrong for opposing the Bush tax cuts. But at least Obama has been principled and consistent - McCain swerves around the political landscape to cherry pick the votes he needs.

Likewise, McCain is the first conservative to engineer a plan (Gang of 14) to hold hostage Bush’s conservative federal judges. Bush deserves a up or down vote on the floor of the Senate. McCain denied him that. By the way, when folks say, “Well, I know McCain will nominate conservative judges…” they forget that somebody has to approve them. That somebody is the United States Senate. Do we really think those Senators will treat McCain’s allegedly conservative judges any different than McCain treated Bush’s conservative judges?

Or will McCain go into it knowing that conservative judges can’t get a vote (in part because of the Gang of 14 stunt McCain pulled) and thus nominate “moderate” judges. That’s what I predict.

Likewise, McCain is the first conservative to engineer limitations to political free speech. If you and your friends discover something about a candidate 60 days before an election and you want to buy some media air time and let your neighbors know - sorry - you don’t have First Ammendment rights 60 days before an election. Oh, but the politicians do. Nice loophole they engineered for themselves.

See, this is just one more example of McCain’s danger. Politicians deserve unfettered access to the First Ammendment. You and me, sorry bud - you can’t be trusted.

Likewise, McCain is the first conservative to propose legalization of 12+ million illegal alien/invaders in our country. Yes, we all know Reagan gave amnesty to about 2 million. McCain will trump that by a factor of 6. And, Reagan looked back on it as a great mistake.

Meanwhile in other news: Conservatives hate Hillary but realize that Obama will do better against McCain than Hillary will.

With polls indicating that Barack Obama would do better than Clinton against McCain, conservatives are feeling torn about whether they should plot her demise or pray for her nomination.

Do we hope Hillary gets the nomination so that McCain is stronger, or do we despise Hillary so much we want Obama to get his party’s nomination. In truth, doesn’t matter what we think - Obama will get the nomination. And an Obama-McCain matchup goes very badly for Republicans.

Cameron’s Corner reports that McCain needs to raise a lot of money and reports that Huckabee is likely to beat McCain in several more states.
